The straps are double stitched and are durable. I was unsure about using them on the grill for fear the would burn when they came in contact with the fire, it didn't. I used one of the regular grill mats and grilled pork chops and asparagus. I have to first say I have naturally curly hair and it normally takes forever to straighten, this was not the case with this straightener. It doesn't pull your hair and it is really quick.
